My Story So Far….

Hi.
My name is Luke McClain, or maybe if you are close to my family you may know me as Buka.
I’m a 20-something year-old, who is on this adventure of following God where He leads.
And I wish to share this adventure with you.

But first let me tell you a little bit about myself and my story…
I was born in Colorado, but my parents moved shortly thereafter to Minnesota.
From a young age I knew I was called to follow God.
Now, when I was younger I didn’t know exactly what that meant.
Nor did I do the best job of it, but I gave what I had to Him.
As I was finishing high school I had plans at attending a Christian university (that everyone in my family attends, literally, I have over 100 relatives that have attended this university) and studying theology and after that going to seminary, and then do what everyone else who feels this weird calling of God on their lives does, get hooked up to a church and become a pastor.
In my head it sounded ok, but it just didn’t feel right, I didn’t have peace about my plans….
So I prayed.
I sought wise counsel.
As I prayed and got wise counsel, the answer to my lack of peace, was this.
An acronym and a vision.
I had a vision of God leading me to places of which I had never dreamed of going to sum it up.
And the acronym was YWAM.
YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission.
And God showed me that this was the path on which He had for me to follow.
So I gave up my plan of going to college, and started down this path, following Him where He led me.

But, at this point I knew I had been called to follow, but still didn’t really know what that meant.

So after highschool I made the leap into being a missionary and joined YWAM and became a YWAMer.

And to become a missionary I left my house and flew half-way across the world and…. well actually I had my dad and grandpa drive me the 45 minutes away from my house to the city of Rockford, Minnesota, to join YWAM Minneapolis.

My first step on this path on which God was leading me, was a Discipleship Training School, or DTS for people who know the YWAM lingo.  This was a five month, mission training school.  Teaching one how to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.  So I had three months in a classroom, learning amazing things, but more than that, it was three months where they invite you, to actually get to know God for who He is, and to experience Him.  Then, the last two months of the school was putting all I had learned and experienced into practice.
In Peru.
I went on a two month outreach all across the nation of Peru.  It was awesome and amazing, but at the same time, I was questioning if YWAM was the right fit for me, always looking back and thinking to myself that I should finish this step and jump to something else, something… I don’t know, something different.  This whole actually following His steps thing was new to me.

But during this time, I became intimately aware, that this was the calling God had for me.
That during this stage of my life, the path He was leading me on was this, YWAM.

He showed me, that if I let Him, He would lead to amazing places.

So I decided to let Him and the next step was a School of Evangelism (or SOE) with YWAM to dive deeper into this calling.  It was again another five month program.  It had the same format as the DTS, three months in classroom, and then two months putting it into practice.
I went back to Peru.  But this time to the Amazon Jungle of Peru.

I came back, and knew that I was on the path where God was leading me, so I stayed to be on staff with YWAM Minneapolis, and now three years later, I’m still here.

The adventure continued, and continues to this date.

So this is meant to just share that adventure with you.
To take you along on this adventure that God has called me on.

Some parts of it may seem mundane, and others the most amazing thing in the world, but this is the path that God has called me to follow Him on, and I’ll write about it so that you may see where He leads, and so that you can follow along if you want….

So, hope you enjoy.

Blessings,
Luke

This is fun for me to read as I’ve known you for a long time. How fun to see what God can do with a heart committed to Him!
